Introduction to Ashtanga

The Introduction to Ashtanga course offers an overview to the Ashtanga style of yoga  by exploring a different portion of the practice each week.  It is for those students who have never tried Ashtanga, would like a refresher course or simply prefer a more structured class.  Students will learn the basic components of the practice:  the sequence of asana (postures), the specific ujjayi breath, the drishti (gaze) and bandha (internal energy locks). After completing the four sessions, students will have a firm foundation to build your Ashtanga practice and the confidence to practice in a Mysore session.  Those new to Ashtanga or yoga are welcome.  New class begins monthly.

Mysore Practice

Mysore is the traditional transmission of Ashtanga yoga.   Instructors teach students directly to allow them to develop the practice and make it their own.  Hands on adjustments and verbal cues are provided as needed.  All levels, beginners to advanced students, practice together in a supportive community environment.  It’s like having a private lesson in a group setting!

Students can arrive any time during the class period, giving enough time to do your practice and leave when finished.  You progress at your pace, not that of the overall class.  One is moved through the practice according to your ability.  It allows beginners to be beginners and intermediate students to advance their practice based upon their increased stamina, strength and flexibility.
